UPDATE - APRIL 2019

Although Nogal is for sale, we continue to manage her as if we have many more years of blue water sailing ahead of us.  This boat is ready to drop lines and sail any ocean, to remain off the grid for months at a time in great comfort and with great sailing performance.  We are in no hurry to sell the boat and plan to continue to enjoy her until we find the right buyer.

Since buying Nogal in 2015 we have spared no expenses in building out the right systems for us to enjoy safe, remote blue water sailing.

Having managed many campaigns for blue water adventures, Frank knew to invest time in finding the right talent for the job.  The list of people who we engaged to prepare Nogal reads like a ledger of who's who in the industry on the West Coast:

Scott Easom: Easom Riggin San Francisco Bay Area (general rigging)

Liam Tao: LTD Marine San Francisco Bay Area (electrical)

Anders Johansen: Swedish Marine San Francisco Bay Area (watermaker, refrigeration and aircon)

Tony Ferrari, Shipwright San Francisco Bay Area (interior)

Larry Thoms, Seaport Stainless, San Francisco Bay Are (custom galley stainless)

Bruce Schwab, Blue Planet Energy (lithium and solar package)

Jim Antrim, Antrim Designs, San Francisco Bay Area (carbon spar design)

Scott Rumple, Johnson Hicks Marine, Sausalito (communications, entertainment and navigational)

It is worth mentioning a few points that are perhaps peculiar to this boat.  Nogal has been set up for performance cruising with reliability and comfort in mind.  We have electronic Tecma toilets running on fresh water. We have the creature comforts of a washing machine, air conditioning and heaters, all of which were used extensively and had a meaningful impact on our lifestyle as we sailed the world. We have 6 different awnings, custom shades and an aft bimini.  We also carry toys, including kayak, windsurfer, paddle boards and four sets of scuba gear. We carry a large dinghy with a 20hp engine that allows us to explore and cover distances.  We installed redundancy for every critical system on board: 2 solar banks, 2 wind generators, 2 water makers, 2 autopilots, 2 monitoring systems for tanks and batteries all completely separate and independent.  With all of this equipment came some compromise on performance but much was offset by the net weight gain of replacing our gel cell batteries with Lithium.  Nogal performs at an exciting level and offers a unique experience with its forward cockpit.
